The secret history antiques/second hand furniture have is intriguing, the traces of another person in the craft and the usage. Is it possible to borrow the expression of age and tactile feel and if so; what positive values will the object gain? In this project it is an aim for me as a designer to increase the value of the object by implementing a history in the expression of the gestalt and the craft. Making History go in reverse by using hardware tools and a sandblasting machine normally used to renovate hard materials as concrete and metal.
I have chosen to use the method on furniture that I have found at flee markets a step to a new life, giving the wooden object a new expression. The sandblasted wooden objects is not the other alike, a controlled random shape. I believe that the unconscious relationship between the spectator expectation and the configuration of the object can be experimented with and manipulated. This will not only enhance the chariness of a chair for instance, but also load it with associational values of say, age.
