Top 4 Best portable table saws in America

Given the importance of the table saw to woodwork, the tool has evolved into various sub categories. These are portable, contractors, Cabinet and Hybrid. In this article, I am going to give a brief background of the portable table saw and then go into the market to review 4 of the best table saw currently.

Why we need a good portable table saw

Portable table saw also known as jobsite table saw has become very popular with woodworkers. Its major selling point is that its easily movable. As a professional woodworker this is very important. Firstly, some jobs require you to work on the jobsite I can give an example of the antique furniture restoration work I did for one institution. The client did not want the artifacts to be moved from the premises due to their sentimental value. That week portable tools were my saving grace. Having a portable table saw opens up many possibilities. Like doing some jobs out of state. Portable table saw also comes in handy when space is limited, perhaps you stay in a European style(small) apartment or you want to cutdown on workshop floor rental space.  I think I have given you an adequate review let us go to the market to review 4 top portable table saws in America.

Secondly, I recommend it for anyone who is constrained for space in their workshop. Thirdly I recommend for professionals who need a portable saw. Lastly, I recommend it for hobbyists and novices. Its such a great table-saw.

  • Depth of cut at 45 degrees 2 -1/4inch
  • Dust Port Diameter 2-1/2 inch
  • No Load speed 3850 RPM
  • Weight 45lbs

Reasons it stands out

The DW 745 stands out for a variety of reasons I am going to mention below. Personally, I am impressed by its portability. Weighing only 45lbs the DW 745 is very light and easy to carry and pack. This is extremely important for convenience. Another major advantage of this is that it makes it easy to store for those with space constraints.

Amazingly the DeWalt table-saw is light weight but its performance is not compromised. I have noticed that the DW 745 has very minimal vibrations. Which is essential for precision purposes.  Remember the table saw runs on a 15 Amp motor. Making it adequately powered.

The DW 745 is also very easy to adjust. All this is attributed to innovative features like the Site-Pro Modular Guarding System allows for tool free adjustments of the guarding components appropriate for each application. Another feature is the Rack and pinion fence rails which make fence adjustments fast, smooth, and accurate. All this leads to a seamless adjustment between jobs. Even when working on uneven spaces the adjustable rear feet design ensures you get the desired flat table top. The DW 745 has retractable telescoping fence which increase versatility.

DeWalt also made sure that the DW 745 is durable. This is very important for those who are still building their workshops. You need to buy something that can last. Some of the features used to do that include the metal roll cage base which can last longer than the competitors’ plastic roll cages. The table is coated reducing friction which enables smoother cuts. The blade is a 24T carbide which is the best material for cutting blades at the moment. Carbide maintains the blade’s geometry and sharpness for a very long time.

Lastly, this is a very highly valued portable table saw when you are tired of it there is huge demand in the second-hand market.

Areas of concern

There are a few areas of concern on the DW 745. The inability to fit dado blades is a cause for concern for some. Secondly there are issues with dust collection and lack of a stand. This can result on extra expenses for you.

It is no coincidence that two table-saws from one manufacturer occupies the top 2 spots. The DWE 7491RS is well engineered and fit for purpose. I had the opportunity to experience it during a visit to a friend.

Specs

  • Amps 15.0 AMPS
  • Blade Diameter 10”
  • Depth of cut at 90 degrees 3-1/8 inch
  • Max rip to left of blade 22 inch

  • Depth of cut at 45 degrees 2 -1/4inch

  • No Load speed 4800 RPM
  • Weight 90lbs

Reasons it stands out

As I mentioned previously the DEWALT DWE 7491RS has very good features that give it very good performance. Firstly, the table saw accepts Dado blades. Strangely, I have noticed that a lot of upcoming woodworkers want to work with Dado blades. Secondly, another feature users will appreciate is the fence system. The fence can accommodate up to 33-1/2” stock. Which means one can work on large shelving and trim material. The DWE7491RSis adequately powered with a 15 amp motor. During use this translates to quick rips through hardwoods.

The table saw has a dust collection port which easily connects to a vacuum. Another good feature is the rolling stand which is designed for easy set up and breakdown. I noticed that unlike most portable table stands this one maintains excellent stability during work. Another feature is the Rack and pinion fence rails which make fence adjustments fast, smooth, and accurate. All this leads to a seamless adjustment between jobs.

Another impressive feature is the Onboard-storage system. This is a good feature for decluttering the workshop. Also if one stays in an area with limited space.

Areas of concern

Even though the DEWALT 7491RS is an exceptional tool there are a few issues. Firstly a lot of my fellow craftsmen have been complaining that the table=saw stand does not do justice to this tool. Therefore you night have to get a custom one. Secondly, the table saw is difficult to set up the first time.  you are a novice I recommend getting an experienced helping hand.

The Bosch 4100-10 10 In. Worksite Table Saw with Gravity-Rise Wheeled Stand delivers both professional rip capacity and outstanding portability for a tool that can get the job done, wherever it is. The powerful 15 Amp saw delivers 4.0 max HP for outstanding productivity. The SquareLock rip fence is engineered for maximum trueness and great ease-of-use, with the fence able to easily glide along the rail for one-handed operation.

Areas if concern

I noticed that the Bosch 4100-10 10 requires a lot of alignment and calibration if one is to get a good enough cut. This can be an issue for novices. With professionals it can also be an inconvenience especially when working at a jobsite.

Reasons it stands out

This Bosch GTS1031 offers unmatched portability when it comes to carrying it to the jobsite. The GTS1031 has a balanced one handed carry handle for easy mobility. Bosch also included an under-table storage for accessories. This feature ensures that all accessories are at one place when going to a jobsite. Design wise, the GTS1031 has good aesthetics too therefore it can be a good centerpiece for a workshop. As if that is not enough, Bosch made the table-saw of all steel so it can deal with being roughed up at the jobsite (Very important because often times at a jobsite you will be too pressed on time to handle tools with care). This particular table saw also has a 20 inch x 22.5 inch table which gives ample workspace.

Another area where the Bosch GTS1031 scores big is jobsite precision and safety. These include a SquareLockRip fence which firmly secures the stock to ensure consistent cutting performance. This feature makes it easy for one to make accurate cuts. Smart guide system is a feature which provided blade guard, superior cutting and anti-kickback control. All these are important when working with a table saw.

Lastly, there is free access on back for easy maintenance.

Areas of concern

The major issue I have with this table saw is on blade adjustment. If the blade is misaligned for some reason it becomes very difficult to correct it. Secondly, the fence may require modification if one needs it to last longer.
