After recently purchasing a table saw, the discovery that some of the related accessories were not included can be disheartening. You were not conned. Customarily, power tools only come with accessories that support basic operations. It is interesting that some of the add-ons that are missing are usually some of the essential ones. The featherboard is one of such accessories.
Fortunately, it does not cost exorbitantly. A featherboard is simply a crosscut board that results in “fingers”. Its prime job is to apply gentle and consistent pressure on the stock as it moves towards the blade. With it, the human finger is kept out of harm’s way. Because of the design of the fingers, the stock can only move in the cut direction- they minimize kickback significantly.
I have taken some time to research for the best featherboards for Dewalt, Ryobi, Vintage table saws and some other underrated featherboards. For more about how I arrived at these choices, there is a buying guide too.

Best Featherboards For Table Saw
Here is my list for some of the top featherboards for table saw on the market.
You might notice that we have specific featherboards for Dewalt and Ryobi table, after all, they are quite popular.
I will continue to update this article to cover some good featherboards for other brands as well.
#1. Featherboard, DRILLPRO Double Featherboards Feather Loc Board for Dewalt Table Saws
To start this review, here is a nice pair of featherboards from DRILLPRO that works perfectly with Dewalt table saws, especially the jobsite varieties. As the smile on the products suggests, this featherboard is designed for superior performance on a wide range of equipment, including the DEWALT table saw.
The first thing I like about this item is the strength, backed by high-quality polymer construction. It does a splendid job in preventing chattering and applying consistent pressure on the stock, so the results are always desirable. Its 13 angled fingers apply consistent pressure on the wood so that the cut is cleaner and instances of chattering and kickback are minimized.
With its handy knobs, this featherboard fixes nicely on the Dewalt, thus preventing any instance of kickback. Its miter bars fit in most standard miter slots (3/8 x 3/4 Inch). Combined with the wedge-lock hardware, the board is perfect for most slots.
These featherboards are extremely easy to set up and use. Follow the simple procedure to install the 0.1 x 0.1 x 0.1 inches item using the miter bars, expansion bolts, and T-bolts as necessary. The two featherboards come in handy in handling the stock firmly against the tabletop and fence.
I find that this is the best featherboard for Dewalt table saws.
- Quick set up and removal
- Suitable for both miter and t-slots
- Magnet for cast iron usage not available
#2. Milescraft 1406 FeatherBoard for Ryobi Table Saw
If you are looking for a nice featherboard for your Ryobi table saw, here is an affordable and dependable piece for you. Like the 1407 D/TFeatherBoard, the 1406 FeatherBoard features a striking tension and dual slide design that has been wowing users. Its performance, ease of use and value for money are the reasons I consider it a great option for Ryobi users.
This featherboard is medium-sized and carries 14 tough but flexible fingers on the right. Its metal 5/8″ And 3/4″ bars are suitable for standard miter slots on the Ryobi table saw. Place the metal bar in the slot on the table, fix the board on the bar using the provided screws, and you are ready to cut your stock safely and accurately.
As for the design, this featherboard has a futuristic look and feel on it. The dual slide design makes set-up and use smooth. The pre-load design is the reason setting consistent tension on the stock works so smoothly. It offers optimum hold on the workpiece, thanks to the split-rail construction of the miter bar.
If you do not love it already, consider what people who have used it before are saying. One reviewer says that it works perfectly on their Ryobi 10 inch table saw. Ok, some Ryobi saw owners may be unable to position it on their tools out of the box, but they can still clamp it on the table, as they would a DIY featherboard.
One user was able to use the featherboard on his Ryobi RTS21G Table Saw after using a Dremel tool to remove the nonstandard tabs from the slots. It could take some people some time to be comfortable with this accessory on their Ryobi table saws, but the fact is that it is an awesome one for this brand.
- Friendly price
- Versatile design
- May take some learning and adjustments
#3. Premium Hedgehog Spiral Featherboard for Vintage Table Saws
For the vintage table saw, I recommend a relatively new design in the HH-100 Premium Hedgehog Spiral featherboard. Based on the shape of a hedgehog, this accessory is easy to use, extremely effective, and safe. When you are using a vintage table saw, you want as minimal distraction as possible, the main reason I chose this item.
If you just acquired a vintage table saw and have no experience, the Premium Hedgehog Spiral Featherboard is the perfect accessory as it is simple and easier to use. With one hand, you can control the device and have your cuts done accurately. You will not believe how easy it to make clean cuts with the featherboard. Even if you find the installation a little bit confusing, the item comes with a handy user manual for reference.
This featherboard is markedly different from others in the market. A spiral design of the fingers is the secret behind one point of pivot and quick adjustments to different stock widths. Other featherboards have at least two knobs, which can make adjustments hectic. From the simple rotation of the device, the user has more than 5 inches of maneuverability at his/her disposal.
I like the flexibility offered by this board, as it supports different types of users and application conditions. Re-configure the item as desired for use on either the right or left side. You can also stack two boards if the stock is thicker.
As long as the vintage table saw has a 3/4” miter slot, this featherboard will work. One user has the featherboard on his vintage Craftsman table saw, and it is providing superior support. The 3/4″ Metal bar provides a stronghold that keeps the stock firmly in place during cutting.
- Simple to set up and use
- Reversible design
- Can stack for thicker wood
- Single pivot may be a challenge
#4. Magswitch Table Saw Featherboard Universal Model
Do you own a Grizzly table saw or any other model with a cast iron table? Then you have no reason not to buy a magnetic featherboard. One of the products that have impressed me the most so far in this category for its versatility is the Magwitch Universal Featherboard.
The highlights of this accessory are the two 20Mm Magwitch’s or magnetic points that tighten the device to the table. The on/off switches have a combined 190 pounds of holding force. Owing to the magnetic nature, this item can work on any side of the fence or blade- entirely independent from T-slot or miter slot. Simply place the board on the table, switch on the twin black knobs, and the device will lock as tight as an oyster.
The 12 tough but flexible fingers on both sides add to the versatility of this board. A low profile provides for simple setup and use. Since the item offers accurate positioning, it suits both outfeed and infeed applications on the table saw. Whichever side of the blade you use, you are guaranteed of improved cutting results.
I like the fact that this universal model is only 1.15 pounds heavy and has a compact design of only 6.9 inches long. This may restrict the board to small medium-sized tables, but the excellence it offers at holding the workpiece against the fence is remarkable.
I join the hundreds of reviewers who have given the board a 5-star rating and recommend it for all levels of users.
- Easy to set up
- Fingers on two sides
- Accurate results in wide range of setups
- Outfeed and infeed application
- Only applicable on cast iron tables
#5. Kreg PRS3020 True-FLEX Featherboard, Pack of 2
I cannot possibly complete this review of the best featherboards for table saws without covering this blue plastic product by Kreg, a global leader in pocket-hole technology. Like the Magswitch, this board is versatile in that it enhances results on the table saw among other saws. Many people who have used it opine that it holds wood better than even the experienced user, and I think they are right.
I am not overselling when I say that the Kreg PRS3020 is easy to use. Owing to a well-thought design, this product sets on the t-slot or miter slot within seconds, even without extra hardware. The 1.28 pounds weight aside; it comes with handy wedge-lock hardware that makes connection with t-slots or miter slots on a wide range of table saws flawless. It is designed to comply with the standard 3/8″ x 3/4″ (9m x 19mm) miter slot.
The True-FLEX Featherboard is true to its name, as its design offers optimum pressure on the stock. Most competing models lean towards either too much or too little pressure. With this product, you can only get accurate results and be safe while at it.
Featuring a tough plastic composite body, this board is highly durable. Even underuse in a serious workshop, it will stand for many years, providing consistent results.
Based on the manufacturing quality that guarantees precise and consistent results, I highly recommend this product for professionals and novices alike.
- Versatile thanks to wedge lock system
- Accurate and consistent cutting
- Highly durable
- Easy to install and use
- California’s Proposition 65
- Could be a little problematic to disengage from slots
What to look for when buying a featherboard for table saw
Although the featherboard is a relatively small accessory for the table saw, it can have a huge impact on your work. For satisfying cutting results, make sure you consider the following points when buying.
Featherboards are usually of plastic, foam or wood construction. They may also come with metallic hold-down components or magnets that hold them in place. Since materials are a big determinant of tool quality, you want to take some time deciding which of the available constructions is better for you.
Some designs are outright weak- they collapse even before you can settle down to work. I am not admonishing any brand, but reviews will always tell the true story.
Currently, I have not come across a wooden featherboard in the market. Users still like to make them, an indication that the material is quite reliable. The most popular materials today are plastic and foam.
From my review of plastic featherboards for table saw, not all plastic accessories are the same. Some are more reliable than others are. Consider buying the harder plastics as they retain their strength for long.
I guess you have ever bought clothing and upon reaching home, it turned out to be either too large or too small. A similar scenario may happen if you go to buy a featherboard without knowing the specifications of your table saw.
Some featherboards can only fit in specific table saws. If you are not in a position to determine a specific product, consider going for a universal featherboard, such as the Magswitch Table Featherboard Universal Model.
People may tell you that making a DIY featherboard is cheaper, but you will be amazed at the affordability of some of the best featherboards for table saws in the market. For instance, the Milescraft 1406 FeatherBoard for Router Tables, Table Saws, and Fences will set you back a mere $13.51, exclusive of shipping costs. That’s an absolute bargain for a quality accessory. What I have discovered is that whatever budget you set, you will often get a nice product that will enhance your woodworking projects. The three options given here fall in different price ranges, but they all give superior service. That is why I think it is also important to have a budget in mind when looking for the best featherboard for table saws.
